For eight years I was editor of Research Information magazine – ‘the essential link between publishers, librarians and researchers’. I now edit the magazine on a consultancy/freelance basis – commissioning copy, publishing news stories and writing interviews and features.
As a freelancer I’m still heavily involved in the scholarly communications industry, and have worked extensively with some of the major players in academic publishing, including Springer Nature, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, Digital Science, Institute of Physics Publishing and the American Institute of Physics.
For Cambridge University Press and Assessment I’ve written a series of interviews and blog posts with journal editors-in-chief, an in-depth interview with Mandy Hill, Managing Director of Academic Publishing, and a series of press releases promoting the organisation’s journal content.
I’ve written multiple white papers relating to scholarly communications for organisations including Digital Science and the Society Publishers’ Coalition and AIP Publishing. I also co-authored and co-ordinated a 10,000-word report for the global property and construction consultancy Gleeds.
With any project I take great pride in my ability to fully understand the project in hand – no matter the subject – and always write in plain English so that the reader will understand every word of the finished article.
